Don’t you love the smell of Fall Goodies? So does your body!

Happy November!! 🙂  I hope you all enjoyed a safe and happy Halloween!!

Were you able to fight off the sugar?  I did it!! I did.  And that’s a big deal for me.  I usually will always indulge in a little, but i figured i was going to go BIG this year and JUST SAY NO! Phew, glad that’s over!!  Halloween and Easter are the most difficult holidays for me to not go overboard.

November, and the Fall is my favorite time of year.  Minus the raking the leaves.  Ugh, don’t you hate that?  I wish i had my polar calorie monitor when I used to rake! I’m sure i burnt probably well over 2000 calories total in my escapades out there with the pine needles on Cape Cod.  I used to rake about 3 times a fall, and then once in the spring.  Many, many trips to the local dump with leaves!

I also love November because it always reminds me to give thanks.  I am thankful first and foremost for my 3 F’s, family, friends and fumble.  I am thankful to my dad and sister because they are the lights of my life.  I am thankful to my best friends because they are the giggles. And I am thankful for Fumble because he is my best listener and bodyguard, and bear rug, and lovebug!

One of my FAVORITE things has to be the smells of fall.  I’m a big smell person because they evoke memories to me.  My mom ALWAYS used to bake, so I have the fondest memories of cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin pie spice… You would always open the door to my house and be offered a treat and hit with a waft of heart warming scents.  I find that I now gravitate towards these flavors in my own cooking. I pretty much eat a buttercup or kabhoca squash roasted and covered in pumpkin pie spice every day!  Ginger has to be one of my favorites!  Yum!!

Well, I got to thinking, I know there are medicinal effects of most foods out there, spices included! I put together a graphic to show what the health benefits are of the favorite fall flavors!!

Spices are also an EXCELLENT way to add flavor without the guilt! 😛

What are you most thankful for this November?

What is your favorite fall spice??

Friday Favorites!

Hey all… soo… how was your week??  I’ve been busy getting my resumes out there!  I actually had a phone interview this week.  I don’t know why they always make me so much more nervous than face to face?  I was also a complete DORK on the phone on Wednesday night!  But that will follow below under my favorite this week!!

Do you have “themes” of things that you find that you enjoy during a week?  Here were a few of my favorite things… (yes, I just said that while humming “The Sound of Music”!)

Loreal BB Cream

This stuff is amazing!!  I have been using it for almost a month now and my skin has completely changeD!! For the better of course. Have you used it yet?  I saw it on a feature on the Today Show and figured it sounded much better for my skin that tinted moisturizer.  I have found that I don’t require as much foundation anymore!  Which is a very good thing for my wallet, because I use the mineral makeup.

Loreal Cleaning Conditioner

I got this cleansing conditioner this week after hearing about it.  I have admired the Wen commercial for a while.  (sidenote: why do they play those commercials on the OnDemand for Storage Wars?? How many men care about their hair??) My scalp has been in a little trouble due to some thyroid and hormone issues, so I’m trying to come up with ideas to remedy the constant fall out.  I figured I would give this a shot for $6.99.  The first day I used it my hair felt really greasy.  I didn’t blow it out, and it never dried.  NEVER! lol!  I read the reviews and then I figured out that I needed to wash it a certain way!  It also takes your hair at least 2-3 days to get used to the lack of “stripping” that shampoo does.  My directions for successful application.  It takes me about 6 pumps to clean my hair. I do 1 pump per area of my scalp.  Then I comb it out in my hair, while i’m in the shower, leave it on for 2 minutes and then RINSE IT OUT as much as I can.  It will take a little longer to dry with a blow dryer, but my hair has NEVER been this smooth!!!!

Yummie Tummie Shaping Tank

I know there is absolutely NO NEED for me to wear a shaping tank.  However, I HATE the little bump that my jeans and button create.  It’s a pet peeve of mine.  Also if you knew me, you would know that I have some actual “tummy” troubles, and end up very bloated at the end of the day.  I bought this to help ‘suck me in’.  I couldn’t be happier!!  I also got it on a great deal from! I ❤ a good deal!!

The weather!

Yes, I am totally loving the change in season.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m a summer bumpkin with the rest of them. However, I love the fall.  I love everything about the fall!!  My favorite thing right now is the change in nights.  I love to be cold when I sleep.

Getting a phone call from Karena from Tone It Up

Have you ever heard of Karena and Katrina.  I think I mentioned it before that I use their Nutrition Plan.  I have had great luck because they offer gluten and dairy free alternatives.  Plus, their are so motivating!!  I also integrate their weekly workouts into my fitness routine.  But back to the call!  I just found out last week that they make calls to members of their plan on Wednesday evenings.  I was out with the dog on Wed night and I heard the phone ringing.  I thought it was my sis, so I thought I would call her back.  When I got in it was a blocked call, and I listened (AND SAVED!!) the voicemail from Karena.  I was so shocked. I didn’t know what to do, so I tweeted her back!

She called me back!! I was so “star struck” i wasn’t sure what to say.  I think i got a little kerobbled.  I thanked her about a 100 times!  lol!  I’m very rarely at a loss for words.  Still at a loss and i’m shaking my head at my silly reaction! I still have questions! haha!  Isn’t that how it always happens, after the fact??!

Strong is the New Skinny

One of my high school friends, Lauren, reminded me of this quote this week.  It’s SO TRUE!!  I love muscles.  When I feel strong, I feel good about myself, feeling good equals confidence, and confidence equals “sexy”.  🙂  I also lift because I get to eat more!  Is anyone else way more hungry on the lift days??

I’m loving myself some Fumble this week.  I worked 40 hour weeks, plus almost an hour to and from.  So I was gone for 10 hours a day.  When I got home from my workday I had to workout, eat, shower.  It left so little time for Fumble moments!  I’m enjoying the tiny times with him.

Continuing my Pinning Recipe Making

I’m loving that I’m actually making what I’ve been pinning!!!  I made Laura @Sprint2TheTable‘s Microwave Cookie today!! I subbed pumpkin for the sunbutter, and then topped it with Shakeology frosting.  This was a fabulous, high protien snack!!!

And lastly, I can’t forget my little good luck charm

We had a lot of rain on Tuesday afternoon/night.  I went to go let Fumbs in the afternoon and when I went to go open the umbrella, I found this little guy!!

I didn’t think anything of it, but then Jennifer at FortheGlow told me that frogs are good luck!  I looked it up, and they are indeed!  They offer good luck, especially while in transition.  Eerily wonderful in my shift into my “new life”!!!

What are a few of your favorite things from the week??

Pinterest testing!

I’ve been a member of Pinterest for a while now!  I remember everyone saying they had to be on a waiting list!  I was so confused, I must have gotten an account early on!??

If i could make a career of pinning, I would!  I love it!! I have boards for gluten and dairy free stuff, decor, products, and crafts.  You can follow my board at Eiren !

I was a little bored yesterday afternoon, and rather than go out and spend $$, I decided to use what I have and make some things!!  No baking, still scares me!

First up was my second attempt at Laura @Sprint2theTable‘s Cauliflower Crust.  I’ve had good luck with Caralyn’s @GlutenFreeHappyTummy version.  However, when I saw that Kasey @Powercakes did one with Coconut flour, i had to test it again!  My first trial with coconut flour was a big flop!  Broke right apart.  This time, we had success!!!

If it looks green, it’s because I used green cauliflower.  My question… why is there green cauliflower?  Isn’t that the equivalent of broccoli?? Oh well, I bought it anyways!

Loved this!! I didn’t end up using it as a pizza crust because I like to dip it like an old school breadstick!  OOOH side note: that’s the one thing I miss from college.  Not caring about what you ate at 1 am, and that included breadsticks from Dominos!!!  Dipped in anything!  Oh dear!  okay, back to healthy food that’s ALLOWED on my gluten/dairy free lifestyle!!

My second recipe attempt was also a third attempt!  Caralyn @GlutenFreeHappyTummy made Cauliflower cupcakes.  The first time I made these, they worked great, but stuck to the pan a little.  I also made them with protein powder in place of the almond meal.  Second time, I accidentally left them in the oven and then turned the broiler on. Whoops.  Just a little beyond my usual crispy likes!  This time, I decided to PAY ATTENTION and use cupcake liners.  FINALLY!!!!  I also followed the recipe and used almond flour!

My third recipe was a new one!! I saw this yesterday morning and it looked SO good!!!  I love quinoa because it’s not a grain! xoxo!!  Heart Protein!!  And I LOVE, LOVE LOVE sweet potatoes!! I probably eat too many of them?? Oh well!!  I saw these Sweet Potato Quinoa Cakes on Danielle’s Clean Food Creative Fitness Blog.  It caught my eye because she mentioned the Tone It Up Nutrition Plan.  Have you heard of Karena and Katrina?? LOVE them! So Inspiring!!  I have been using the TIU plan for the last few years.  I’ve had great success, but have slacked a little with Meal 5.  Did I say i liked sweet potato?? Well these sweet potato cakes looked yummy, and I had all the ingredients!!

I think I used a potato that was larger than normal, because I got about 8 patties.  I also have a great tip for quinoa!  Do you always burn your quinoa on the bottom of the pan??  Place 1 Part Quinoa, 2 part liquid in pan, boil for 5 minutes, turn off the burner, cover and leave there for 15 minutes! Perfectly fluffy Quinoa!

These were delicious!!! i would recommend them to anyone!!!!  🙂  Thank you DaniellE!

My last attempt was my lunch!!  I love Kristin @Stuftmama‘s blog!  First, because she’s a mom of twins!!  And second because her recipes are amazing!!!  I have tried her “Goo” before, and LOVE IT!!!  This recipe was for her Flatout Bowl but I used a gluten free Rudi’s Tortilla!  It’s really easy!!  Cinnamon, Tortilla and oven= genius!  I added my own version of her “Goo” with Kabocha squash, SunWarrior Vegan Protein Powder, cranberries, a chopped Crimson Crisp apple, and a dash of oriental 5 spice.

This meal was amazing!!!!  Healthy and so yummy! It was like fall in a shell!! 🙂  Plus, can I just give props to Rudis!  Finally a gluten free wrap that’s not over 150 calories!!!

Are you a Pinner???

Do you Pin and never make anything???

Crafting weekend!

Hey all! I hope you enjoyed a lovely weekend.  It was a tid biT HOT in NY!! I thought I might be able to take Fumble for a walk.  I was sorely mistaken.  I let him out at 5:30 am and there was drool to the floor after 3 minutes to pee!  So we played a few rounds of football in the house!  We were actually very inspired after a lovely trip to watch the NY Giants Training Camp on Sunday… with about 5,000 close fan family friends!

Victor Cruz and Eli Manning…

And then my favorite boys… the lineman!!

The rest of the weekend was pretty quiet.  Did a LOT of food prep.  I swear, i keep myself quite busy for a single lady!

I also decided to actually try one of those crafts i’ve pinned on pinterest!  You can follow me at Eiren!

First, I decided to make my own “Turbo Tshirt!” I’ve been doing the program for 7 years might as well represent!  The t-shirt cost me a $9 at Old Navy (Vintage T) and then the letters cost $8.  I had a coupon at the craft store for 40% off.  **MY TIP, always look for a coupon!!**

Here’s how my T-shirt came out!

My second crafty tank experiment was based (or should I saw loosely because it didn’t come out 100%) on this tutorial:

Blogilates Racerback Tutorial

It came out okay! But i think I need to make some revisions next time!  Definitely use a bigger tshirt to start with.  Don’t start with a tight one!  I felt like the incredible hulk when i put it on.  When I stretched my arms the arm holes tore a bit!  But once that happened, it fit quite well! 🙂

Here is the finished product!

I started with the basic t shirt….

I then cut off the top of the neck, the arms, and the bottom band.

The directions call to cut out a V-neck, which I did.  I folded it over to make the V ‘even’.  Even though mine still wasn’t too even! lol.

Take your bottom strip, cut off the bottom panel.  Stretch out the rest of the fabric as much as you can.  Take the back of the t-shirt and tie a knot at the top of the back where you want to make your racerback.  Wrap it down to the bottom of the V and then tie another knot.  Cut off the rest!

And voila’ it’s complete!

Like I said, mine was a little ‘snug’.  I will definitely do this again but with a larger t shirt.  I have my momentous shirts that I have saved through the years.  I didn’t want to trial this out on them and then ruin it!

Have you tried to do a craft from Pinterest yet?

If you have, have you had success???
