Happy Halloween!!!! :P

Happy Halloween everyone!

I apologize for my lack of posts recently.  I have ideas, but just the sitting down and typing is getting away from me!  Especially with my big news.  I’m moving!!! 🙂  Yes, I am!! Officially this time! My dad and I have decided just to do it, pull of the bandaid and go! Plus, I think it’s much easier to get a job when you have an address in a state.  Being 4 1/2 hours away has made it difficult.

So Southern Maine here we come! 🙂

But back to Halloween!  Yah!!  I hope you all have a SAFE night!!

I must say, I am very happy to see that the news stations in NY decided to postpone the Halloween festivities.  It certainly wouldn’t seem “right” considering all that has happened.  I truly hope that everyone is safe and well! 😦 I can’t imagine having to go home and have lost all of my possessions.  Heck, during my own packing, I realized HOW MANY photos I keep in the basement.  I certainly need to do something with those!

We are in Upstate NY/Capital region, so we missed it all.  Just lots of wind and barely any rain.  My heart just absolutely breaks seeing the videos and photos 😦 In my thoughts and prayers! xoxo

I did post a photo of Fumble’s Halloween photo this morning!  We were inside due to the storm, so I got creative with his costume this year.

It’s sort of an odd choice for him because he is anti everything doggie exercise.  Sleeps about 22 hours out of the day!:P

I hope those of you that ARE taking part in Halloween this year make some wise choices!  Here are my tips!

  • If you are going to eat treats today, just don’t binge out on them!  This is a great way to avoid food guilt later.  You can taste a few things, but it’s okay to throw it out and not finish it.  It took me a long time to come to that “no waste” conflict, but it was worth it.  I will have a few bites of something and then stop, think, “is my craving satisfied?” and then move on!
  • If you’re going to a party, eat before you go!  Don’t go hungry, because you’re more likely to eat too many heavy foods at once, and then you’ll just feel blah!  Eat clean through the day with some healthy protein.  MOre energy for Monster Mashing! 😛
  • Get out and walk to trick or treat! If it’s not raining, get out after/before dinner! Walking is still a great way to be active!
  • Beware, the candy jar!!  You can mindlessly eat those M&M’s over and over!!  I try to trick myself to STOP to eat them! I always get in the goodies first, and then I remember everyone’s hands in the jar!  That stops me right there! If i do take a little bit, I will take a handful, that’s it and walk away.
  • If you are going to pick from your kids goodie bags or your own leftovers of treats to hand out, here are some healthier choices:

Dark Chocolate Miniature treat Serving Size: 5 pieces 200 calories; 13g fat; 7g saturated fat 18g sugar

The “No Shake” Shakeology Recipes!! and Day 2 P90x

So today was Day 2 P90X, Plyometrics.  Going into any cardio program, I get nervous.  If it’s not Chalene Johnson, I get nervous.  I tried a few other programs and always ended up going back to Turbo.  Talk about a “soulmate” workout! Never want to give it up,  I feel like it’s now in my blood.

But, I bucked up and “got ‘er done”.  And it kicked my butt! I liked that it was hard, but I COULD DO IT!!  That’s a big thing with me.  If I can’t do it, I will get frustrated and give up.  I could finish, but it was still a great challenge!  Max heart rate over 180 and average was 148!  Score!! Less than an hour and 458 Calories burned!!  I was a sweaty mess.

PS, i wore my home made TurboFire DVD to show my “pride” for the program that prepared me to take on the P90X challenge for myself!

Oh and side note, that little space in front of your arm pits, YeAH SORE!!!! No more push-ups, feeling the pain from yesterday!

I also took the Fumbs for a lovely little walk this morning.  It was 40 something degrees out, so of course it was perfect Newfie Walking Weather! It was also a wonderful time to pull out my Uggs!!

He’s so cute! 🙂

Okay, back to the point of the post, my Shakeology “No Shake” Recipes!  I LOVE food, eating food.  Shakes are great, but I sometimes like to bite my food!  So I have taken the notion of using Protein powder as a “flour” and flown with iT!!  Here are a few of my favorites!! All made with Chocolate Vegan Shakeology! *Yah Gluten & Dairy Free**

Shakeology Frosting

This is super easy!  1 Scoop Chocolate Shakeology and then add water or Almond Breeze Coconut/Almond Milk to desired consistency.  Add slowly!!  To this Frosting, I added 1/2 apple, 2 Tbs cranberries, and 1/2 Tbs Peanut flour.  Kind of like a cran/apple take on a Nutella and Jelly!

I have also added my Shakeology frosting to my Kabocha Squash.  Kabocha is a sweeter squash, so I gave it a shot.  I think it might be an acquired taste, but i’m willing to try things at least once!  This one stuck!

Shakeology Balls I have made these two ways!  The first try was Chalene’s REcipes that I found online!

INGREDIENTS:

8 Tablespoons PB2 or peanut flour

3 Tablespoons Almond Butter (I make my own)

½ Cup Shakeology Protein Powder

3 Tablespoons Raw Honey

½ Cup Quick Oats

DIRECTIONS:

Mix PB2 with water until it’s a paste like consistency. Mix all ingredients, including the PB2 mixture together in a mixing bowl. It make take some time to blend all of the ingredients together. If it’s too sticky, sprinkle in additional protein powder so that it’s a pretty dry/crumbly texture.

Roll mixture into small individual balls, I made mine as small as 1/2 a ping pong ball and place on a wax sheet. Makes about 24 balls, Put in freezer until firm. The regular recipe makes 12, but i like to have 2 instead of just 1! 🙂 Psychology! 😛

I also made these with pumpkin instead of the Almond Butter and used rice crisp cereal instead of the oats!  Still yummy!  But needed a little more peanut flour!  Change with consistency!

I took these balls and then added one of them chopped, frozen to my yogurt concoction.  They make a great cookie to put on top of stuff!!

And I saved the BEST for last!! My Shakeology WAffles! Or Pancakes!!

Super Easy!!!!  1 Scoop Shakeology, 1 Tbs Peanut flour, 1/2 banana, 1/4 egg whites, and then add water to create consistency.  Or for extra fullness add Almond/Coconut milk.  I always add a dash of oriental 5 spice, or salt if I’ve had a really intense sweat for the day.  Then bake in a waffle pan or in the skillet!

If you want a puffy/dutch baby pancake, I do the same thing but add 1 egg white beaten stiff and then fold it into the wet.  I bake it at 400 degrees for about 25 minutes.  It should puff up a little to make one pancake!  All ovens are a little different, so you might have to play with this one!

Do you ever play with odd food combos??

Now that we’re in the lovely fall season, what are your favorite parts of the change of seasons??

Day 1! P90x starts NOW!

Yah!! Today was my first day of P90X!!! As of this very moment, I think this is a program that I am going to LOVE!!!  I love to feel strong.  Even though I can barely feel my arms right now.  No more push ups please!!  I did Chest/Back and then was supposed to do Ab Ripper X.  I cheated and did Abs yesterday.  I love that ab workout.  It was just hard enough to get my belly a shakin’.  Something it has not done in a while!

The one thing I think I am going to have trouble with is the lack of cardio.  I am used to doing cardio at least 6 x week, and sometimes every 7 with one being an easy cardio.  I very rarely take rest days.  Tony Horton encourages rest days.  Eeek!  Addiction will need to be broken!  I’m going to have to transition out of my addiction, so I did do a Low HIIT 20 from TurboFire.

Back to the workout!  Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a chin up bar yesterday when I was out, so I had to use the door bands that I have to do the faux pull ups.  I loved the workout!  I was afraid of the push ups after about minute 40!  hehe!  I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to feel my chest tomorrow.  Or if i do, i’ll be in a bit of pain!

After my workout, we went to Barnes & Noble, where I went on search of a Paleo book.  I think it’s time… Changing my workout, changing my job, might as well change the diet too!  I’ve had a lot of tummy troubles that have been ‘sort of’ resolved through my gluten and dairy free lifestyle.  However, I still have some issues.  I have also read that Paleo is great for folks with hypothyroidism.  I don’t the hypothyroidism most do though, I was born without a thyroid.  But i’ll try anything!  Especially if it’s not medicinal.  I hate medicines!  Might be because I have to take medicine every day!

So I found a book that I am going to buy, Practical Paleo by Balanced Bites.  This book look like it has it all!! I’m just going to order it online, as it will be much cheaper!  Plus, I’m not a waster.  I’ve got to go through the rest of the food that I have bought before I give it up.  No need to throw things out.  It wouldn’t be fair to those Marshmallows 😛

So of course, after saying I want to go Paleo, I found this!!!  The most amazing Gingerbread Vegan Gluten Free Whoopie Pie at the local Harvest Fair in downtown Albany.

I don’t typically “treat” myself, because if I’m going to, I want to make it worth it! This was well worth it!!  Amazing!!!!  I only had a little bit because it was huge, but it was sooooo goood!!!!!!  Yummy!!

Got home this afternoon and helped put together a workout program for my dad.  And then did my own little ab work to make up for the Ab Ripper I did yesterday.  Proof below!  I don’t know how I held thiS! My whole body was shaking.  I did distract myself by going through my instagram feed with one hand!  😛

I also got in a beautiful walk with my lovely friend Fumble this afternoon!  It is finally cool enough to walk him outside in the afternoon! Yah!! It was 65 degrees, so we went for a quick 15 minute walk.  If you know Fumble, you know that’s enough for him!  He’s currently passed out as I’m writing this.  Snoring loud enough to shake the floor…

Have you ever eaten the Paleo lifestyle??

How did you spend your lovely Sunday???

Week in review… via instagram

Hey all,
Here is my week in review via my instagram photos.  (Is anyone else sort of in love with instagram?? i actually woke up the other day and liked because i wasn’t 100% ready to get out of bed yet… just me?? Okay, i can accept that!)

I’ll start with my foodie successes!! I usually eat the SAME things every other day!  Habit?  Easier to track my food?  I’m boring?? All of the above?  It’s easy to eat the same things that you like when you’re single!  Probably the only perk of living single.  I can the same things, AND i can have breakfast any time i want!  I will have to find a man that likes breakfast for dinner!!

BUT, back to my successes.  I made both a fantastic gluten free/dairy free cauliflower crust!  🙂  I had a fouled attempt earlier this week… but the second try was WELL worth it!!!  The first round was delicious, but it just didn’t crust like it should have.  I tried to be sneaky and use Coconut Flour.  I have the WORST luck with coconut flour?  I’m starting to think that it dries out so quick because of altitude.  Well, second time around I used Caralyn at Gluten Free Happy Tummy’s recipe!  It was yummy!!! Found here: http://glutenfreehappytummy.com/2012/07/21/cauliflower-pizza-party-a-graduation-gf-v-bed-scd/  I also added some spices to the mixture.

I really need to work on my presentation for photos… I loved it! I actually used half of it for dinner, and saved the other for lunch the next day.  The second day was actually pliable and I was able to use it as a wrap! Even better! Two recipes out of one!!

The second one I made was from Laura at Sprint2theTable.  I am now obsessed with recipe, plus a few others of hers!! It seems like I have a very similar palate to her.  I made her PB & Aggs recipe!!  It was delicious!! http://www.sprint2thetable.com/2012/08/pb-aggs-wiaw/ I think i also added 1/2 banana to it too, and then I put the mixture into a left over Peanut Butter container.  I LOVED it! and I wasn’t hungry for a while… even betteR! Protein does that for you!! The bread in the photo is the Julian Bakery Paleo Coconut bread.

I HIGHLY recommend anyone following a gfree diet follow these two gals!!  They both have a wonderful variety of documentation on their recipes and meals.  🙂
In regards to my fitness… I took a challenge via the gals at Tone it Up from Instagram yesterday!  They said “drop and give me a plank”, SO I DID! 🙂

The other big accomplishment in my “Allergy Fitness” life, was that I completed my Hybrid of Chalean Extreme and TurboFire.  I am going to miss my program until I come back to it.   I hadn’t done Extreme in a while, but wanted to a change from the heavy cardio.  This is a great hybrid, because it gives you a mix of both worlds.  You don’t get bored easily!!

I also took my “After” photos for the FIRST TIME EVER!  Does it ever get easy to pose in a bikini??  And then post the results??

:sigh:: i did it!!

very pleased with the results, but embarrassed… that’s my old insecurities rearing their ugly head…

I will have to do this on Friday’s from now on!  Considering almost all my photos go up on Instagram.  I could post for days of all of Fumble’s photos too! lol!

Just as an aside… it’s a full blue moon today.
